BUCHI preparative chromatograph
with 5 kg column capability. It can be used to separate and purify single or several compounds from a mixture consisting of many substances, often having very similar molecular structures.
The separation of substances is performed by passing a solution of the tested mixture through a specially prepared separation phase (bed), also called the stationary phase. The separation phase is made up of substances that have a sorption capacity or are capable of other interactions with the flowing substances. As the eluent (mobile phase) flows through the separation phase, the adsorbed (or bound) substances are washed away. The intensity of this process varies for the individual components of the mixture. Thus, some components are retained in the phase longer and others shorter, so that their separation can take place.
